DIRECTOR'S WELCOME
Dear SEMAU Delegates, Faculty, and Guests,
On behalf of the Center for Africana Studies at Georgia Southern University, it is my distinct honor and pleasure to welcome you to the 2025 Southeastern Model of the African Union (SEMAU) Conference.
As Director, I am deeply proud to host this gathering of bright, engaged students and dedicated educators from across the region. SEMAU represents far more than a simulation—it is a space for dialogue, diplomacy, and discovery. Here, you are not just studying Africa; you are engaging with its complexity, celebrating its diversity, and shaping your understanding of its global influence.
This year’s conference theme, “Unity, Development, and Innovation: Africa’s Next Generation,” invites us to explore how African nations are navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in a rapidly changing world. As you step into the roles of diplomats and leaders, I encourage you to approach each session with curiosity, empathy, and a commitment to excellence.
Georgia Southern University is proud to champion this tradition of experiential learning and global engagement. We hope our campus and community provide a welcoming and inspiring environment for your work and fellowship.
Thank you to our faculty advisors, conference organizers, and institutional partners whose dedication makes SEMAU possible. Most of all, thank you, students, for your passion and presence. Your voices and vision matter—this is your moment to lead.
Welcome to Statesboro. Welcome to SEMAU 2025.
Warm regards,
Dr. Akiv Dawson
